imdb.comLady Macbeth movie by British film director William Oldroyd was acknowledged the best movie of this year, according to Esquire US editorial. Twenty-five movies are on the list, Lenta.ru reports. The plot of the movie is based on the novel by Russian writer Nikolai Leskov titled Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District. The place setting of the movie is North of England.

As per the Russkiy Mir Foundation, the movie was released in UK this year. William Oldroyd confessed that he was fascinated by the main heroine of the Leskov’s novel when he was reading the book. Elich Birch was a screenwriter of the movie. They changed the place setting and even an ending.

Lady Macbeth is followed by the film by Christopher Nolan Dunkirk about the rescue mission of hundred thousands of European soldiers trapped by the German troops at the France’s beaches during WWII.

Marjorie Prime drama directed by Michael Almereyda about middle-aged widow who lives with hologram image of her late husband closes the three leaders.

Besides, top-10 list includes such movies as Kolumbus, I Don’t Feel at Home in this World Anymore, Okja, I Called Him Morgan, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, The Lost City of Z and February horror film.
