Vyacheslav Nikonov, Executive Director of the Russkiy Mir Foundation told Vesti TV channel about the foundation’s operations to date and its plans for the future.
“This year has been very successful and positive for the foundation and for the whole Russian World, which comprises a great number of people, who think in Russian, speak Russian, love Russia and are learning Russian," said Vyacheslav Nikonov. "... In the 1990ies Russian became the sixteenth most popular language to study in Poland – it was taught at various educational institutions, at schools and universities. Now it comes in second after English, which is a very impressive achievement, compared to the nineties. The Russian language has come into fashion, and it helps people profit in a number of ways".
“An attitude to the Russian language has changed significantly in many countries, and we are also tracing changes in attitude to Russia… from the part of the Russian Diaspora… which is the largest in the world – it even exceeds the Chinese Diaspora by scale. This positive trend can be viewed as our strong benefit,” he concluded.
