The ''neural network'' became the main word of the outgoing year in Russia, according to the Gramota.ru website. This was revealed by the number of requests on the Internet, as well as by research by specialists. Other popular words of the year included ''returnees'', ''GPT'' and others, TASS reports.

The website's editors explained that when choosing the word of the year, the results of big data analysis, the frequency of requests, and the conclusions of linguists, sociologists and other experts were taken into account.

As a result, the word ''neural network'' received over 70% of the votes. Also among the leaders of the list were words such as ''GPT'', ''base'' and ''returnees''.

The word will be included in the Gramota.ru meta-dictionary, which has collected data from various reference books and dictionaries of the Russian language.

The Pushkin Institute of Russian Language also declared ''neural network'' the word of the year. Experts noted that it captures ''the most current trends of the outgoing year.'' This year it was included in the Academos academic orthographic resource, which testifies to its frequent use in mass media texts.

The Pushkin State Institute of Russian Language called ''heritage'' the main word of 2022. And a year earlier, Russians named ''coronavirus'' the main word.
