German customs have announced that they may resort to confiscating Christmas gifts arriving from Russia. The department noted that such measures can be introduced against goods prohibited for import in accordance with the recommendations of the European Commission, RIA Novosti reports.

The list of items that can be confiscated by customs includes paper pulp and paper itself, wood and wood products, stones and gold, cigarettes, cosmetics and others. Customs stressed that no exceptions would be made, and confiscations will apply even when it comes to parcels from private individuals.

Last summer, many cases of the seizure of cars with Russian license plates were recorded in Germany. According to the recommendations of the European Commission, phones, laptops, clothes and other personal belongings of Russians were also subject to confiscation.

The Russian mission to the EU stated that the recommendations can be regarded as an actual ban on the entry of Russian citizens into the European Union. The diplomatic mission also called these EU measures neo-Nazism and racism against Russians.
