Events in memory of Russian soldiers began in Turkey the day before, on November, 21, the telegram channel of the Coordination Council of Organizations of Russian Compatriots in Turkey reports. They were organized in honor of the anniversary of the evacuation of the Russian army from Crimea in 1920.

Compatriots in Turkey are holding commemorative events for two days, November, 21 and 22, in Gelibolu. The head of the House of Turkish-Russian Friendship in Ankara, Erol Ugurlu, took part in the organization.

In November 1920, the Russian army headed by Peter Wrangel was evacuated from Crimea to Constantinople. The servicemen hoped to preserve the army and navy and sooner or later return home. Thus, more than 30,000 officers and members of their families ended up on the Turkish Gallipoli peninsula. They lived for about two years in the vicinity of the city of the same name. Many of them died.

Despite the unsuitable living conditions, military training classes continued in the regiments, and they tried to raise children born in a foreign land as Russians. On November 22, 1921, the emigrants established the Gallipoli Society.

The Union of Descendants of Gallipoli established a memorial day for Gallipoli and all soldiers of the White Army on the day the first military units landed in Gallipoli. This happened on November 22, 1920. Memorial services will be held on the Saturday closest to this day.

This year, on November 25, memorial services will be held in Gallipoli, Paris, New York, Florence, St. Petersburg, Bogota and other cities around the world.
