Over a thousand applications have been received by the Russian Cosmonaut Training Center (CTC) named after Gagarin as part of the new recruitment. At present, 16 people have been invited to the full-time stage of selection for the Roscosmos team, Interfax reports.

Due to a high volume of applications, the selection period for the fourth open recruitment by Roscosmos was extended. Open to all, including women, with Russian citizenship under 35, the initial deadline was October 30, later extended to December 20.

The announcement of the new cosmonaut squad is scheduled for March, with plans to accept 4-6 individuals, augmenting the current team of 26 astronauts.
