Roerichs: the Indian Way festival took place in Kullu Valley, located in the foothills of the Himalayas, India, TASS reports. The large-scale cultural forum was timed to coincide with the centennial anniversary of the Roerich family’s arrival in India. They also celebrated 95 years since the family of philosophers, artists and scientists settled in the Himalayas. Now the Roerich Memorial Museum operates there.

The honoured guests of the holiday were the Russian and Belarusian ambassadors Denis Alipov and Andrei Rzheussky. The head of the Russian diplomatic mission recalled that next year marks 150 years since the birth of the founder of the Roerichs, Nicholas, and the 120th anniversary of his son Svyatoslav.

Most of the participants represented the Academy of Arts, which bears the name of Nicholas Roerich's wife Elena. It operates at the Memorial Museum-Estate of the Roerichs. The festival program included the opening of an exhibition where copies of works by Nicholas Roerich’s youngest son Svyatoslav were presented. All works are dedicated to India.

The Kullu district authorities said that India does not intend to follow the example of the West and ban Russian culture. The head of administration Ashutosh Garg hopes that cultural ties with Russia will only become wider.

The Indian curator of the International Roerich Memorial Trust, Suresh Kumar, also noted that residents have great respect for the Roerich family, and the entire Russian culture, which they represent.
