Teachers' Day is celebrated in Russia on Thursday, October, 5, TASS reports. It has been celebrated on October, 5, for 30 years already, since in 1993 UNESCO established World Teachers' Day. People are asked to think about how a good teacher changed their life.

The award ceremony for the winners of the Teacher of the Year competition is timed to coincide with this day. The celebration will take place in the Kremlin Palace, where a large concert will be held in honor of Teacher's Day. It is the central event of the Year of the Teacher and Mentor, which is dedicated to the anniversary of the birth of the founder of Russian scientific pedagogy, Konstantin Ushinsky.

15 people advanced to the 2nd round of the final stage of the competition. Among the finalists, the majority are teachers of history, Russian language and literature, and English. The country's best teachers are fighting for victory for the 34th time.

Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated teachers on the holiday. He called the Year of the Teacher and Mentor another symbol of great respect for the work of teachers. The head of state promised that measures to support teachers would be expanded.
