For the first time, a car with Russian license plates was not allowed into Greece; customs officials explained the decision by EU sanctions. A few days earlier, the Russians said that no such difficulties had arisen on the Greek border. Greece has not officially announced a ban on the passage of cars with Russian license plates, Fontanka.ru reports.

A married couple from Moscow planned to get to Greece from Turkey in a personal car with Russian registration plates. The Russians had an EU visa in their hands, as well as documents for booked hotels and a ferry.

At the Greek border, the police asked Muscovites to insure their car; when they tried to do this, the insurer began making calls, and then the couple received documents with clarifications from the European Commission prohibiting them from entering the EU in cars with Russian license plates.

Muscovites noted that other cars with Russian registration were able to enter Greece, which indicates a lack of coordination between the actions of the police and customs. The Russians were not prepared for such a situation, because Athens did not announce restrictions against cars with Russian license plates. Previously, Germany, Finland, Poland and the Baltic countries had introduced a ban on the entry of such cars.
