Russia to allocate 1,000 state-funded places to Chinese students

1,000 state-funded places are allocated by the Russian authorities for students from China as part of the quota for the next academic year. According to Inna Svyatenko, head of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy, the quota has been increased, Parlamentskaya Gazeta reports. Last year, it was 940 places.

To date, more than 32,000 Chinese study in Russian universities. The senator noted that two years earlier there were almost 3,000 fewer people. Most often, they choose a major related to philology and linguistics, they also study foreign regional studies and economics.

In Chinese universities, the number of Russian students in 2020 was up to 20,000 people. In total, Russians make up 8% of foreigners studying in China.

The issue of Russian-Chinese cooperation became one of the topics for discussion during the visit to China of the delegation of the Federal Assembly, headed by the chairman of the chamber, Valentina Matviyenko.
