Compatriot of the Year award presented in Bulgaria

The Compatriot of the Year award was presented in Bulgaria, World Russia reports. The solemn ceremony was included in the program of the forum of Russian compatriots.

The award was presented for the 16th time. This year the winner was Irina Ivanova from the city of Pleven, a member of the Voskhod Russian club. She was awarded for her great contribution to the social activities of Russian compatriots.

The awarding ceremony is organized by the Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots of Bulgaria, the Union of Compatriots Federation and the Together with Russia National Society with the assistance of the Government Commission for Compatriots Abroad and the Russian Embassy.

The participants were joined by almost 500 compatriots and Bulgarian friends from more than 30 Bulgarian cities.

The awards were received by the most worthy representatives of the Russian diaspora, who make a significant contribution to various spheres of public, cultural and social life of their compatriots in Bulgaria. They were also handed over to the Bulgarians, who most actively interact with the organizations of compatriots in the country. In particular, awards were presented for the preservation and popularization of the Russian language, for the contribution to the strengthening of historical ties between Bulgaria and Russia, for mercy and generosity, and in other categories. 

The large-scale events of Russian compatriots in Bulgaria have become a real celebration of unity and hopes for strengthening ties between Russia and Bulgaria.
