A total of 742 applications from 41 countries has been submitted to the 17th Tchaikovsky International Competition this year, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports. The muscial contest is scheduled to take place from June, 19 to July 1, 2023. 

The competition will be held in Moscow and St. Petersburg in six nominations - "Piano", "Violin", "Cello", "Solo singing", "Woodwind instruments" and "Brass wind instruments". Its venues in the capital will be the Big and Small Halls of the Moscow State Conservatory and the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall. A gala concert of the laureates is planned at the Zaryadye Concert Hall.

The International Tchaikovsky Competition has been held since 1958 once every four years and is one of the largest and most authoritative professional music reviews in the world. Over the years, the competition has given an opportunity for young musicians from different countries to gain worldwide fame, to become stars of world musical art.

Since 2011, Valery Gergiev has been the artistic director of the competition.
