International theater festival takes place in St. Petersburg

The 24th International Theater Festival opens in St. Petersburg. Theater groups from nine countries, including Russia, Turkey, Serbia, Iran, Iraq, Hungary and the CIS countries, will take the stage of the Bryantsev Youth Theater and other St. Petersburg stages, the website of the Russian Ministry of Culture reports.

The festival is considered one of the most prestigious in Russia and has been held since 2000. Every year, thousands of people become spectators of the festival performances, the event gathers specialists from the world theater.

This year, the public will be able to watch 26 productions, including eight foreign ones. The festival will be held in a number of leading St. Petersburg theaters. 

The program includes performances based on the works of Russian classics and foreign authors. The festival will close on June, 1 with a performance by the Belarusian Academic Theater for Young Spectators based on Pushkin's novel "Eugene Onegin".
