The week of Russian culture has kicked off in one of the cities of Venezuela, RIA Novosti reports. It was organized by the Valencia City Hall with the assistance of the Russian Embassy and Russian compatriots.

The first event was an exhibition of works by artist Gennady Dobrov. The exposition works in the museum of José Pocaterra, the first ambassador of Venezuela to the Soviet Union. According to the organizers, they wanted to celebrate the establishment of twinning ties between Russia's Volgograd and Venezuela's Valencia. The exhibition presents the Autographs of War art series and Requiem art series - graphic images of the disabled of the Great Patriotic War and paintings dedicated to prisoners of concentration camps in Western Europe.

Julio Fuenmayor, mayor of the city of Valencia, noted that the paintings remind of the lessons of the Great Patriotic War and tell about the heroism of the Soviet people. The head of Valencia called Russia a brotherly country and assured that the bonds of solidarity and mutual respect would only grow stronger.

Earlier, a memorial plaque dedicated to the Battle of Stalingrad was installed on the central square of the city of Valencia. The commemorative sign for the residents of the city, whose population exceeds 800,000 people, was presented by the Center for Public Diplomacy of Volgograd State University and the Bering-Bellingshausen Institute. The Mayor of Valencia noted the decisive role of the Battle of Stalingrad for the liberation of Europe from Nazism and emphasized the leading role of Russia in the fight against neo-Nazism in the modern world.
