International book salon opened in St. Petersburg

The St. Petersburg International Book Salon opened on Thursday, May 18, TASS reports. Traditionally, the main site of the large-scale forum is located in the historical center of St. Petersburg - on Palace Square. A book town was erected there from four pavilions, which occupy about 15,000 square meters.

Within almost 20 years of its existence, the book salon has become a notable event in the cultural life of the city and the country as a whole. It is held for the 18th time. More than 200 publishing houses are taking part in it.

The four-day program includes creative meetings, book presentations, discussions and much more. A special program is designed for young readers.

The book salon will celebrate the centenary of the poet Rasul Gamzatov and the 200th anniversary of the playwright Alexander Ostrovsky. 

Writers Evgeny Vodolazkin, Tatyana Tolstaya, Dmitry Puchkov are scheduled to speak at the forum.
