The Russian-Sri Lankan University Association of Medical and Allied Sciences has been established by the universities of the two countries, the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation reported. The agreement on the creation of the new organization was signed by representatives of the Kursk State Medical University (KSMU) and the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine. The Association was headed by the rector of KSMU Viktor Lazarenko.

The Assosiation will provide a platform for conducting joint research, for organizing seminars and conferences.

The Center for the Study of the Russian Language and Culture appeared earlier at the  Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine. It was opened by the Yakovlev Chuvash State Pedagogical University.

The opening of the Center, which bears the name of Ivan Yakovlev, is dedicated to the anniversary of the educator, teacher, organizer of public schools, creator of the modern Chuvash alphabet and textbooks of the Chuvash and Russian languages for the Chuvash. This year marks the 175th anniversary of his birth.
