The burial places of Soviet soldiers in Germany were attacked by vandals, RIA Novosti reports. The Russian Embassy in Germany condemned the criminal act.

At the Seelow Heights memorial complex, located in the federal state of Brandenburg, unknown attackers damaged the tombstones of 14 burials of Red Army soldiers. Russian diplomats called it especially cynical that the attack took place on the eve of Victory Day.

The battle for the Seelow Heights in the spring of 1945 was one of the largest at the final stage of the Great Patriotic War. The victory in the battle opened the direct path to Berlin for Soviet soldiers. More than 30,000 Soviet soldiers are buried on the territory of the Seelow Heights memorial complex.
