Garden of Memory international campaign has kicked off

More than ten southern regions of Russia, including the republics of Donbass, were the first to take part in the Garden of Memory international campaign, held in honor of the victims of the Great Patriotic War and participants in the Russian military special operation in Ukraine. 27 million trees will be planted in Russia and abroad within the campaign, TASS reports.

The first plantings took place in Sevastopol and Crimea as part of the celebration of the anniversary of the reunification of the peninsula with Russia. The 4th season of the project was also opened in Nalchik, Lugansk, Donetsk, Novorossiysk and Armavir. Officials, veterans and public figures took part in planting trees. Abroad, the first plantings took place in New Delhi and Tashkent.

It is planned to plant a variety of trees. 70 thujas, cypresses and firs were planted in Sevastopol, 40 lilac bushes in Novorossiysk laid the foundation for the first garden of memory on the territory of the local memorial complex. Linden and catalpas will grow in Armavir in memory of the fallen.

The Garden of Memory campaign has been held since 2020 to perpetuate the memory of those who died during the Great Patriotic War. Traditionally, the organizers are the Garden of Memory non-government organization, theVolunteers of Victory movement  and the Fund for the Memory of Victory Commanders with the support of a number of Russian ministries and departments.
