The draft resolution submitted by Russia on combating the glorification of Nazism was approved at a meeting of the 3rd committee of the UN General Assembly. It took place the day before, on November, 4, RIA Novosti reports. Now it is the turn of the General Assembly, it must also vote for the resolution.

The document was supported by representatives of 106 states. 15 more abstained. More than 50 countries opposed the adoption of the document.

The resolution is passed every year, and the United States refuses to approve it every year. In recent years, Washington has been supported by Ukraine. This time, Washington and Kyiv were joined, in particular, by Berlin, Vienna, and Rome. The Russian Foreign Ministry is confident that European politicians were guided in their decision solely by political motives.

Western countries refused to support the resolution, arguing that Moscow allegedly exploits the topic of fighting neo-Nazism for the sake of conducting the special military operation in Ukraine.

According to Grigory Lukyantsev, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Commissioner for Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law, this happened for the first time - earlier German, Austrian and Italian diplomats assured that their principles would never allow them to oppose the glorification of Nazism.

The document contains recommendations to countries to take concrete steps to prevent the rewriting of history, the falsification of the results of the Second World War, the denial of crimes against humanity and war crimes, including in the legislative field and in the field of education, in accordance with their international human rights obligations. .

The sponsors of the resolution called on states to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination. In addition, the document condemns the use of educational materials, as well as rhetoric during training, that promote racism, discrimination, hatred and violence based on ethnic origin, nationality, religion or belief.
