The women's national basketball teams of Russia and Belarus will skip the European Championship next year. By decision of the Executive Committee of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the two teams are suspended from participation in the qualifying tournament, R-Sport reports.

The decision was published on the federation's website, stating that the basketball players were stripped of the international tournament after "careful consideration of the latest developments of the conflict in Ukraine." Also, FIBA referred to the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee on the non-admission of Russians and Belarusians to the competition.

Earlier, the federation announced the non-admission of Russian basketball players to all competitions held by the organization, but this did not apply to the qualifying tournament of the Women's EuroBasket. The decision to suspend resulted in the annulment of the results of the tournament, which the Russians opened with victories over the national teams of Montenegro and Denmark.
