Marina Tsvetaeva 130th anniversary celebrated worldwide

Russian poet Marina Tsvetaeva 130th anniversary was celebrated widely in Russia and abroad, TASS reports. “No more passionate voice ever sounded in Russian poetry of the 20th century” said Joseph Brodsky of Tsvetaeva.

Marina Tsvetaeva was born into the family of Professor Ivan Tsvetaev, the founder of one of the leading Moscow museums, the, which later was called Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. Marina began to write poem at the age of six, at the same time in Russian, German, and French.
At the age of 18 Tsvetaeva published her first collection of poems, Evening Album.The very first collection of poems attracted attention of the leading Russian poets of that time. During her lifetime she wrote poems, verse plays, and prose pieces; she is considered one of the most renowned poets of 20th-century Russia. Tsvetaeva’s life coincided with turbulent years in Russian history, Russia was on the verge of revolution. Critics of Tsvetaeva’s work often comment on the passion in her poems, their swift shifts and unusual syntax, and the influence of folk songs. She is also known for her portrayal of a woman’s experiences during the “terrible years”. Tsvetaeva lived part of her life in Germany and France, but later returned to the Soviet Union, where she tragically finished her life in poverty.

The museum-house of the Tsvetaeva family in Tarusa, Kaluga region held a big celebration dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the poetess and the 175th anniversary of her father. Arrow of events were held in Russian capital as well. 

The Cambridge Russian-speaking Society (CamRuSS) held an evening of poetry readings and music in celebration of Marina Tsvetaeva. Set against the backdrop of Churchill College Chapel, the evening started with a selection of music by Chopin, Rachmaninov and Medtner performed by Elena Toponogova on the piano. After the intermission, three actresses from the Xameleon Theatre, Maria Blatstein, Elena Knight and Vlada Lemeshevska, recited of Tsvetaeva’s poems with a piano accompaniment by Maria Blatstein.

"The faces of love" book inauguration was held at the Oblate Library in Florence. On the occasion of the 130th anniversary of Marina Tsvetaeva's birth, this book contains the poetic cycles dedicated to Sof'ja Parnok, Boris Pasternak, Osip Mandelshtam, Sergej Ėfron and other passionate loves of the poetess. The translation of Marilena Rea, the leading expert of Tsvetaeva in Italy, has initiated the collection of Tsvetaeva love poems for the first time in Italian.
