The decision of Brussels to suspend the simplified visa regime with Russia began to operate on Monday, September 12, TASS reports. The number of Schengen visas for Russians will decrease, and the process of obtaining visas will be longer - the terms can be increased up to six months. The visa fee will also increase - from 35 to 80 euros.

Each country - an EU member-state - will itself determine the admission of Russians to the territory of the Schengen zone through its borders.

Warsaw, Tallinn, Vilnius and Riga have already announced that Russian citizens are prohibited from entering their countries with Schengen visas.

The EU countries can impose restrictions on the transit of cash, introduce questionnaires on the attitude to the military operation in Ukraine, or restrict entry to one country of the Schengen zone on a visa of another.

At the same time, the EU decided to make exceptions for family members of EU citizens, persons who are sent to Europe for humanitarian reasons, for example, for medical reasons. Dissidents and "representatives of civil societies" are singled out as a separate group.
