The Russian version of Wikipedia, the Runiversalis, has started its work, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports.

The authors of the project note that Runiversalis, unlike Wikipedia, is not owned by a private foundation, and belongs th the whole Russian sector of the Internet. The portal boasts having 8722 articles at the moment.

In July, Roskomnadzor announced its intention to introduce restrictive measures against the Wikimedia Foundation. Search engines should indicate to Internet visitors that the website violates the Russian laws, since it does not block illegal information, including in relation to Russia.

Earlier, the Safe Internet League noted that Wikipedia lost its independent status and was actively involved in the dissemination of false information about the course and purpose of Russia's special operation in Ukraine. It was also noted that in the English-speaking segment, anti-Russian fakes are often introduced by bots.
