The anniversary of Rodion Shchedrin will be celebrated as part of the festival in Verbier, Switzerland, RIA Novosti reports. The famous Russian composer turns 90 this year. The large-scale cultural forum opens in the Swiss Alps on Friday, July 15. Shchedrin's Second Piano Concerto will be performed at the concert.

The composer's birthday will be celebrated at the festival by pianist Mikhail Pletnev. The concert program includes works by Beethoven and Shostakovich. They will be complemented by Shchedrin's symphonic fragment for orchestra Beethoven Heiligenstadt Testament, which was written based on the Heiligenstadt Testament.

The third evening, timed to coincide with the anniversary of the Russian composer, will begin with a performance of Dialogues with Shostakovich for a symphony orchestra.

Verbier is not considered the most popular place for Russian tourists in Switzerland, but in previous years, during the days of the music festival, Russian was spoken here from everywhere. Russians and Russian-speaking fans of classical music came to the town.
