The International Peace Prize has been established in Russia, TASS reports. It will bear the name of Leo Tolstoy. The award is aimed at strengthening peace and cooperation between peoples. The award will also be given to those who draw the attention of the international community to the cause of the struggle for world peace. In addition, the Peace Prize will celebrate a large-scale contribution to the achievement of charitable, cultural and educational goals, including the promotion of a positive perception of Russia in the world.

The founders of the Leo Tolstoy International Peace Prize Foundation are the Russian Historical Society (RHS,) the Russian Military Historical Society and the Russkiy Mir Foundation.

The solemn ceremony of signing the founding documents took place on Wednesday, June 22, at the Victory Museum.

The head of RHS Sergei Naryshkin hopes that in the near future the fund would become a reliable and convenient mechanism that would allow it to support "like-minded anti-fascists, citizens of different countries, people of good will."
