The last monument to Vladimir Lenin in Kotka, Finland, installed can be dismantled. According to the Finnish TV channel YLE, the decision to dismantle the sculpture of the Soviet politician was made by the city council, TASS reports.

The demand to remove the monument was made by both the city council and the residents of Kotka, who consider the statue of Lenin on the street inappropriate and want it to be moved to a museum. According to the channel, the monument will be sent to the Kymenlaakso City Museum.

The sculpture was installed in Kotka in 1979, it was handed over to the sister city by Tallinn. In recent years, the monument has repeatedly become a target for vandals and has been damaged.

During the discussion of the fate of the monument in the city council, a proposal was made to keep the monument in the open air and add a plaque explaining its history. The museum agreed with the initiative, but it was not supported during the voting.
