More than 330 works have been submitted to the Pushkin Competition in 2022, the website of the Moscow Compatriot House reports. According to the organizers, it is a record number of entries. Almost half of them- 187 out of 332 - were sent from Uzbekistan. In total, the works came from 25 countries. For the first time Russian language teachers from Cuba and Finland joined the competition.

The topic of the competition is "From the language of the Union to the language of the world: why do they learn Russian today?". Yadviga Yuferova, deputy editor of Rossiyskaya Gazeta, which hosts the competition, recalled that this year marked the centenary of the founding of the Soviet Union. This country defeated fascism and influenced the course of world history. According to her, the Russian language at that time not only had a state status, it allowed residents of all the republics that were part of the USSR to become part of the world culture and science.

30 years have passed since the collapse of a great country. Independent states inherited Russian as the language of interethnic communication, as the working language for most international organizations, as the language of peacekeeping missions. Participants were asked to explain why they are interested in learning the Russian language.

According to teachers from different countries, "Russia keeps the world in balance", "the Russian language has been transformed from the language of the Union into the language of the world." Most teachers note that the Russian language remains in demand in countries located on the territory of the former Soviet Union.

The results of the competition will be published on June 6, the Day of the Russian Language, which is timed to coincide with Pushkin's birthday.
