Vyacheslav Nikonov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Chairman of the Board of the Russkiy Mir Foundation, commented on the EU's intention to introduce an embargo on the import of Russian oil, the deputy's press service reported.

''The European Union will not stop buying Russian oil.

Well, what kind of oil will they buy? Arabic? Arab light crude oil can be processed at refineries in southern Europe, but there are simply no such facilities in the center of Europe. Everything there is built to process Russian oil, so they will buy ours. How they will do it is another question. Most likely, Hungary, Slovakia, and if one is lucky, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic will buy oil in unlimited quantities in Russia, they will become the largest oil exporters in Europe and make good money on it.

As for the price of gasoline in Russia, it is difficult to predict it. Because, on the one hand, we will obviously have more oil, especially at first, but on the other hand, the price of oil largely depends on the excise taxes on petroleum products. And what these excises will be, we cannot say now. This will depend on government policy.

In addition, high oil prices are inevitable. Once the European Union embargo is placed, it will have an upward impact on the price of gasoline. Therefore, let's see, nothing dramatic will happen to gasoline, prices should not rise. They can fall,'' said Vyacheslav Nikonov.
