Graduates of the Russian University of Theater Arts (GITIS) took part in the international festival of the Academy of Musical Theatre, TASS reports. It was first held in Nimes, France.

According to the rector of GITIS Grigory Zaslavsky, Irina Deryabina and Victoria Agarkova's participation in this large-scale forum can be called a fantastic success. Especially given the tough political situation, he clarified.

Zaslavsky added that both GITIS and Russia are mentioned in all the texts devoted to the festival.

University graduates took part in the production of Hans Werner Henze's opera El Cimarron. His work is practically unknown in France.

Irina Deryabina explained that the festival was preceded by a serious selection. The opera was chosen by the Academy, and the participants offered options for staging. The Academy helped the Russians get a French visa, allocated a grant to pay for tickets and accommodation. The preparation process for the production lasted two weeks, then the premiere took place at the professional theater community. Then the performance was shown to the inhabitants of Provence.

The festival brought together three projects. Each of them was developed by a separate team, consisting of directors, lighting and scenography employees. Each team worked separately from the others. The audience was also shown Igor Stravinsky's The Story of a Soldier and Georges Apergis' Recitations.

The rector of GITIS has no doubt that the triumph in Nimes is another proof of how high the level of the entire national theater school is.
