The tragedy that occurred in Odessa on May 2, 2014 won't be commemorated by local residents, RIA Novosti reports. The Odessa authorities announced the day before, on May 1, the start of the so-called "protracted" curfew. It will continue until the early morning of May 3.

Every year, on a mourning date, the citizens of Odessa brought flowers to the House of Trade Unions on Kulikovo Field, left wreaths and lit lamps.

On May 2, 2014, activists of the Right Sector organization (banned in Russia) attacked the tent camp of supporters of the federalization of Ukraine. The latter tried to escape from the angry radicals in the House of Trade Unions, but the attackers set fire to the building. Almost 50 people died that day, more than 200 were injured.

Russian President Vladimir Putin promised that those responsible for the death of people in Odessa would be punished. According to him, the names of those responsible for the tragedy are known, although they have not yet been punished. No one is looking for them right now. But they will certainly be held accountable, the Russian president assured.

International organizations have repeatedly stated that there is no progress in the investigation of this terrible crime. They demand that the Ukrainian authorities punish those responsible for the death of people. But the process of the case is dragging on.
