Russia has decided to withdraw from the UN Human Rights Council, TASS reports. The deputy head of the Russia's permanent mission, Gennady Kuzmin, said that membership in the UNHRC will be terminated from April 7, after the decision was made at the UN General Assembly to suspend the membership of the Russian Federation in the Council.

Kuzmin called the actions of the UN General Assembly unlawful. He has no doubt that this decision is politically motivated.

The Russian diplomat assured that this decision would not affect the situation with Russia's fulfillment of its international obligations in the field of human rights protection. Russia plans to continue to make a significant contribution to the expansion of a constructive dialogue on the issue of human rights.
