Members of the UN Security Council have refused to support the Russian draft resolution on the situation in Ukraine, RIA Novosti reports. A document proposed by Moscow called for a ceasefire so that it would be possible to evacuate the civilian population. The resolution was supported by Russia and China, the rest of the Security Council members decided to abstain.

This vote clearly demonstrated to whom politics is much more important than the provision of humanitarian assistance, the head of the Russian delegation to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, stressed. The US representatives wanted to disown the resolution because Washington allegedly does not want to take part in the Russian resolution. But the US delegation did not vote against, but chose to abstain.

The Chinese representative to the UN, Zhang Jun, also criticized the West's decision. The West did not like the draft resolution because the text does not accuse Moscow of creating a humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, he stressed.

The resolution proposed a ceasefire, for this, the authors note, it is necessary to agree on humanitarian corridors. It was suggested that the UN Security Council would demand the protection of civilians. In addition, the text calls not to use civilian infrastructure to host military units, and also not to install them in densely populated areas.
