Russian actress awarded in US for performing poetess Nika Turbina

Russian actress Liza Yankovskaya has received a Special Jury Recognition Prize at the South by Southwest (SXSW) American Film Festival. The actress was noted for her role in the movie Nika, dedicated to the Soviet poetess Nika Turbina. The jury called her performance "outstanding acting," TASS reports.

The Russian film became the only film in a foreign language in the main competition program. The festival is held in Texas, the organizers strive to find new talents in cinematography.

The jury noted that the aspiring actress, who played her first leading role in the film, brilliantly succeeded in portraying the multifaceted image of the talented young poetess. Nika Turbina became widely known and popular at a very young age, which changed her fate and affected her adult life.
