The year 2022 has been dedicated to the cultural heritage of the peoples of Russia, according to Russia's Ministry of Education. The corresponding decree was signed by President Vladimir Putin.

The aim of the Year is to "popularize folk art and preserve cultural traditions, historical and cultural monuments, ethnocultural diversity, cultural identity of all peoples and ethnic communities," the decree says.

Within two months, the government will have to form an organizing committee and approve a plan of the main events of the Year. Festivals, exhibitions, fairs, lectures and master classes will be held in the regions of the country.

Russia is inhabited by more than 190 peoples, each of which has its own culture, customs, traditions and language.

The previous year, 2021, was declared the Year of Science and Technology in Russia. Experts called the increased popularity of science among young people as one of its most important results.
