Uruguayan singer and actress Natalia Oreiro has become a citizen of the Russian Federation and received a Russian passport. The ceremony took place on Wednesday at the Russian Embassy in Buenos Aires, TASS reports.

Oreiro read the text of the oath in Russian and Spanish. "Thank you very much! I love you all very much in Russia," she later said in Russian.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin granted the Russian citizenship to Oreiro and her son. The singer called it a great honor and thanked all Russians for it.

Natalia Oreiro became popular worldwide in the early 2000s, thanks to the Argentinean television series Wild Angel. She has repeatedly professed her love for Russia. Oreiro is visiting Russia almost every year. Her song United By Love, written for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, was recorded in English, Russian and Spanish.
