The Russian Foreign Ministry is expecting clarification from London on the financing of foreign agents in Russia, RIA Novosti reports. A report was recently presented to the public on how much money the British authorities allocated to their embassy in Moscow to support mass media and non-profit organizations in 2020-2023. Some of them have already received the status of a foreign agent, said Maria Zakharova, a spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry.

According to her, a document  covering the activities of the British Embassy in Russia indicates actions aimed at supporting "so-called independent information sources" and "a secret network of influential bloggers and NGOs on the Runet." This creates "conditions for regime change" in Russia and for "undermining Russian influence" in East European and Central Asian countries.

Zakharova added that the scale of funding is "simply shocking." The funds from the UK "for the promotion of Western values" are allocated to the Thompson Reuters Foundation, as well as the Memorial Society, the Sphere Charitable Foundation, the Mediazona website, recognized as foreign agents.
