Fragments of paintings by the famous Russian artist Vasily Polenov are featured on a new stamp issued by the Post of Serbia. The artist's works are present at the exhibition opened to commemorate the 145th anniversary of the beginning of the Serbian-Turkish war of 1876-1877 and the arrival of Russian volunteers in Serbia, TASS reports.

The exposition included canvases created by Polenov during the war. The artist was one of the 4,000 Russian volunteers who fought the Turks on the side of the Serbs. These works are included in the collection of the Tretyakov Gallery and the Polenov Museum-Reserve. Excerpts from the artist's notes made during the war are also on display.

The head of Russia House in Belgrade, Yevgeny Baranov, spoke about the unique book, which included works and diary notes by Vasily Polenov in Russian and Serbian. Some of the works of the Russian artist were published for the first time.
