Compatriots from 102 countries to attend congress in Moscow

Participants from 102 countries are going to take part in the World Congress of Russian Compatriots, TASS reports. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke about this during a meeting with immigrants from Russia. It took place the day before, on August 25, in the Austrian capital, where the foreign minister is on a visit.

According to him, the congress is a large-scale event. It is scheduled for mid-October and will be held for the 7th time. About 400 people will gather in Moscow. Among them are representatives of country and regional coordination councils.

The forum participants will discuss issues that are relevant today. Among them are the protection of the rights of compatriots, the promotion of the Russian language, the role of compatriots in the development of interaction between Russian regions and foreign countries. 

A conference of Russian compatriots from European countries is to be held after the congress. The minister noted that they plan to organize the forum in person.

The World Congress of Russian Compatriots is not the only global event, which unites Russians abroad. The Eurasia Global youth forum is scheduled for next month in Orenburg. The Bulgarian capital will host the World Youth Forum for the 6th time. The young generation of compatriots will gather at regional forums in Lisbon and in Bishkek.
