The installation of a monument to Peter the Great on the Place Saint-Remy in Reims for the 350th anniversary of the Russian emperor, which will be celebrated next year, has become one of the main topics of discussion between the management of the Russian House of Science and Culture in Paris and representatives of the Reims mayor's office, the Russian House website reports.

A sculpture by Russian master Andrei Tyrtyshnikov will appear as part of the square's reconstruction.

The history of France and Reims has been intertwined with the Russian history since the 11th century. Legend has it that the daughter of Yaroslav the Wise Anna married the French king Henry I and arrived in the country with the Gospel in Cyrillic.

For many centuries, the sacred book participated in the coronations of French monarchs. It was shown to Peter I during his visit to Reims in 1717. The Russian sculptor has embodied this moment in his work, which will take place on the square. It is noted that the visit of the Russian emperor as part of the European tour was the beginning of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
