The Russian language has become one of the official languages of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), TASS reports. The decision was made at the meeting of the General Assembly of the organization, held on Monday, July 12. Previously, the work of the organization was carried out in five languages - English, German, Spanish, French and Italian.

It is reported that the inclusion of Russian in the list of working languages of the organization became possible thanks to the work of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, which was carried out with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the OIV.

According to experts, the decision to use the Russian language testifies to the growing role of Russia in the winemaking market. It will help promote Russian products abroad and develop cooperation with foreign partners.

As noted by Leonid Popovich, who heads the Union of Winegrowers and Winemakers, 30 years ago Russian was one of the leading languages of the OIV. He called its return to the list of official languages of the organization the restoration of historical justice.

At the moment, the OIV includes 48 states.
