Russians  Lev Katsman and Maxim Grebnev won gold medals at the European Table Tennis Championship, which was held in Warsaw. For the first time in the history of this sport, Russians became European champions in men's doubles, TASS reports.

In the final, the Russians won 3: 1 over the duet of Pole Jakub Diaz and Cedric Neutinka from Belgium. The 3rd place was shared by duets from Hungary and Portugal.

The victory of Katsman and Grebnev became an important page in the history of Russian table tennis. Previously, only Russian women Svetlana Ganina and Oksana Fadeeva became European champions, they played with partners from other countries.

The Minister of Sports of Russia Oleg Matytsin congratulated the athletes on the victory. According to the minister, the gold of the European Championship gives Russia a chance to return to the ranks of the leading powers in table tennis.
