Russian compatriots in Ireland discussed work during pandemic

The activities of organizations of Russian compatriots and assistance to representatives of the Russian community living in Ireland during the coronavirus pandemic became the main topics of the "Year of Memory and Glory. Modern Opportunities and Prospects" annual country conference, which took place online, according to RussianIreland.com.

Residents of Ireland and representatives of organizations of Russian compatriots in Spain and Bulgaria who joined the conference spoke about past and planned events aimed at promoting the Russian language, culture and history of Russia.

Russian Ambassador to Ireland Yuri Filatov noted the responsiveness of Russian compatriots and thanked them for the assistance they provided to Russians during the pandemic.

Lyudmila Snigireva, Chairperson of the Association of Russian Language Teachers in Ireland, shared the problems experienced by Russian language teachers in modern Ireland. She regretfully announced that today only one department of the Russian language continues to work - at Trinity College, others were closed.

The rector of the St. Peter and Paul Church in Dublin, Mikhail Nasonov, spoke about the online services that Orthodox parishes conduct on Facebook. According to the clergyman, virtual services allowed people from different parts of Ireland and other countries to attend.
