Russia is ready to help the Lebanese government to rebuild the Beirut port and other facilities that were destroyed during the explosion. According to Russian Ambassador Alexander Rudakov, the issues of Russian participation in this large-scale work will be discussed soon, RIA Novosti reports.

The diplomat noted that Russia was one of the first to come to Lebanon's rescue. Russian doctors received hundreds of patients, specialists from the Emergencies Ministry rescued the wounded, and Russian compatriots living in Lebanon collected humanitarian aid for the victims.

On the evening of August 4, 2020, about 3,000 tons of ammonium nitrate exploded near the seaport in Beirut. It was confiscated by customs a few years ago. The blast wave destroyed and damaged hundreds of buildings, cars, houses, infrastructure. Hundreds of thousands of people were left homeless. The number of victims of the explosion reached almost 200 people, injuries of varying severity were received by more than 6,000 residents of the city. The capital of Lebanon was recognized as a disaster zone and a two-week state of emergency was declared.
