Russians in African countries prepare joint projects

Russian compatriots living in African countries maintain close contact with each other, discuss joint projects aimed at promoting the Russian language and culture of Russia, and provide support to Russian-speaking residents of the continent. Natalya Agbere, head of the Coordination Councils of Organizations of Russian Compatriots (KSORS) in Togo, told the website of the Moscow Compatriot's House about the compatriots living in Togo and the plans to unite the KSORS of Togo and Benin.

According to her, at present about 100 compatriots live in Togo, they came to the country from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and other former Soviet republics. The overwhelming majority of Russian speakers are women who married students from Soviet universities who came from Togo.

Also, Russian-speaking specialists, sailors and pilots live in the country. Women mainly teach in schools and universities, including teaching children the Russian language and passing on Russian culture. Some children of compatriots, after training, decide to move to Russia and other countries.

According to Natalia Agbere, KSORS in Togo maintains contact with organizations of Russian compatriots and graduates of Russian and Soviet universities in other African countries. The communication channel, created in the popular messenger, allows Russian compatriots from more than 15 countries in Africa and the Middle East to exchange experiences and discuss joint events.
