Russian soldiers and Napoleon's soldiers who died during the battle of Smolensk in 1812 will be buried in Vyazma, TASS reports. In total, the remains of 126 people will be reburied. The remains of three women and three children will be buried along with the soldiers. According to Pierre Malinovsky, who heads the Foundation for the Development of Russian-French Historical Initiatives, all remains were found during archaeological excavations. They were conducted by the foundation together with the Russian Geographical Society. Both the Russians and the French were buried in a mass grave.

Reburial is scheduled for February 13. Descendants of Napoleonic Marshal Joachim Murat and representatives of the Imperial House of Romanov will come to the funeral ceremony.

The ceremony will also be attended by about 100 members of the military-historical reconstruction clubs. They will dress in the military uniform of the Patriotic War of 1812.

The fund, together with Russia, was searching for the remains of Napoleon's ally, French general Charles Etienne Guden. They were discovered in 2019 on the territory of the Smolensk Royal Bastion as part of an archaeological expedition. The excavations were carried out under the patronage of the "Trianon Dialogue" Franco-Russian Forum, created at the initiative of the leaders of the two countries.
