The first episodes of the "Olav" documentary series were shown on one of the Norwegian TV channels, the "53 Novosti" writes. This film, which tells the story of King Olaf, was filmed in Russia. Three episodes of the series are already available on the NRK TV website: "Viking", "King" and "Saint".

The filming location was Veliky Novgorod. Actor, producer and screenwriter Christopher Hivue came to the ancient Russian city from Norway. He gained immense popularity around the world after filming Game of Thrones. In the project about Olaf, he played the role of the host.

The series was filmed in 2019. Its author, Christian Carlsen, was interested in the story of a love triangle in which the Novgorod prince Yaroslav the Wise, his wife Irina-Ingigerda and King Olaf found themselves. In order to understand these relations, the film crew arrived in Veliky Novgorod.

The scenery for the documentary was the Novgorod Kremlin, Trinity excavation site and St. Sophia Cathedral.

Tatiana Tsarevskaya, a doctor of art history, an ancient guardian of the Novgorod diocese, employees of the Novgorod State Museum-Reserve, as well as a historian, writer, candidate of historical sciences Viktor Smirnov, who spoke about the history of the relationship between Olaf, Yaroslav the Wise and Ingigerda, spoke in the film.
