The Mexican authorities plan to purchase up to 24 million doses of the Russian vaccine against coronavirus infection, RIA Novosti reports.

Earlier, the representatives of the Ministry of Health visited Argentina, where they will produce the drug. According to the deputy head of the department, Hugo Lopez-Gatel, in Buenos Aires, they discussed the supply of vaccines with representatives of Russia.

It was agreed that Mexico would receive the drug produced under a patent issued by the Gamalei Center. 24 million doses of the vaccine will make it possible to vaccinate 12 million people.

The Mexican official assured that all information regarding the safety and efficacy of the drug has been received.

Earlier, Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), promised that production of Sputnik V would begin in Argentina no later than the second quarter of the coming year. Argentina has already started vaccination against coronavirus on December 29, 2020.
