Russia has extended the ban on flights to Great Britain until January 12, RIA Novosti reports.

Earlier, the Russian authorities suspended flights the UK for a week due to the worsening epidemiological situation. It came into effect at midnight on December 22nd.

London said that the new strain of coronavirus, which was discovered in the UK a few days ago, is almost three times more infectious than the previous one and spreads much more actively. The mutation has also been identified in Australia, Denmark and the Netherlands, in many other places. It is not yet known whether the new strain affects morbidity and mortality.

Many countries have also banned flights to the UK, and some have imposed quarantines on air passengers arriving from the country.
