Russia continues to help Syria to restore cultural property damaged during the hostilities, TASS reports. In particular, the Syrian side will receive a consignment of humanitarian aid for work on the Monumental Arch in Palmyra. This will include equipment for exploration, equipment for the extraction of block raw materials and the production of stone products. Specialists from Russia and Syria will work with the equipment together.

Last month, the document on the restoration of the historical monument was signed by the Department of Antiquities and Museums of Syria and the Association of Russian Stone Industry Enterprises. According to the head of the association Dmitry Medyantsev, the project is supported by the Russian defense department and the Senatorial Club of the Federation Council.

The work on the restoration of the Monumental Arch has another benefit: it will create new jobs for the Syrians. Dmitry Medyantsev said that Russian specialists would share their experience of working with colleagues from Syria.

It is planned that the restoration of the arch will consist of three stages. First, the state of the monument at the current moment will be studied and documented. This is done using scientific methodology. In the next step, the fragments will be examined using 3D methods.Only after that the restoration will be started.
