More than 30 teams took part in the International Olympiad of Metropolises, which started in Moscow, the website of the mayor of the capital reports. In particular, representatives of Mexico City, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Sukhum, Sarayev, Osh entered the fight for victory in the tournament for the 1st time.

Due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation, the current Olympiad was organized online. The teams began to complete the assignments at home. For each, special platforms with video recording were organized.

The Olympiad was first organized in 2016, and since then it has become a tradition. Schoolchildren from the world's megalopolises demonstrate their knowledge and skills in physics, computer science, chemistry and mathematics. The difference between this tournament and all the others is that they are fighting for victory not in the individual championship, but in a team that includes eight people aged 14 to 18 years - two people for each subject.

The contestants will start with a blitz round. Each participant completes 80 tasks within 120 minutes - 20 in each scientific area. The difficulty is comparable to the level of graduation tests in different countries.

The main rounds of the competition will take place on December 17 and 19. In physics and chemistry, one round will be theoretical, the other one - practical. In mathematics and computer science, both rounds are devoted to problem solving. The tasks correspond to the level and format of traditional international olympiads.

This year, the rules for conducting a practical tour in physics have changed. The organizers prepared a video with the experiment for the participants, after watching which the students will have to answer the questions.
